Welcome Speech for the 2021 Clean Air International Forum
I am Youncheol Lee, the first Vice Governor for Administration of Gyeonggi Province
First off, I sincerely welcome all the participants
from 13 countries, representatives of each organization, and experts who are joining the “2021 Clean Air International Forum."
Today, mankind is facing the unprecedented global challenges
of the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change.
The increase in the level of fine dust takes away blue sky and clean air. The danger of the dust which does not respect borders is threatening all the people around the world.
It is a matter of fact that the efforts
of a country or government alone cannot achieve the goal
of reducing fine dust.
However, it is the task that we cannot avoid
or postpone to protect people's health.
The Covid-19 pandemic has taught us that we are in
an inter-dependent and inter-connected world.
Therefore, we can solve the greatest global challenges
including pandemic diseases and air pollution
only when we join our forces together.
In this regard, East Asian countries, international organizations, NGOs, and
civil societies should work closely together in order to address Korea's find dust issue.
This forum will provide a venue to analyze successful cases of improving air quality and discuss related policies in the East Asian region, which is a breathing community.
This is the key to the 2021 Clean Air International Forum and
the reason why we are gathered here.
I hope this forum will serve as a great chance for
East Asian countries to lead the effort for clean air quality.
Taking this opportunity, Gyeonggi Province will also continue our part to strengthen the cooperation among participating countries and organizations to realize clean air.
Please join us at the 2021 Clean Atmosphere International Forum.
